As a student publication with an international reach, Dispatches International has a staff of 25 reporters based in 15 countries. The article writing process requires a number of steps and several documents have been prepared to help reporters fulfill these steps. Most of these documents have been posted here for reporters to download while they are drafting in-depth articles based on exclusive information attained through interviews with experts and eyewitnesses.
The Handbook for Student Journalists is a comprehensive guide for reporters with Dispatches International and other publications around the world. Written by Zachary Fryer-Biggs, the Editor-in-Chief of Dispatches International, and Malcolm Cecil-Cockwell, the publication’s publisher, this guide is a work in progress. The Handbook for Student Journalists can be downloaded here.
The Feature Article Writing Guide is a case study for reporters with Dispatches International that shows how a feature article evolves from interviews and research, to a rough draft, and finally to a publishable draft. This guide is based on an article by Mowmita Basak Mow, a reporter for Dispatches International at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh. The Feature Article Writing Guide can be downloaded here.
The Topic Proposal Template is a document that reporters with Dispatches International must complete before beginning work on feature articles for each issue of the publication. Reporters generally fill in enough information to make the document two pages or so before returning it to their editors for approval. The Topic Proposal Template can be downloaded here.
